Germany: Drunken German boy in ICU

Berlin - A seven-year-old boy was admitted to intensive care on Monday in Germany after being found in a drunken stupor on a pavement, police said.

Passers-by spotted the youngster in Berlin being sick and trembling and he was taken to hospital in a serious condition. Police said the boy was found to have an alcohol reading of two grams per litre in his blood.

"Initial inquiries indicate that along with his brother who is two years older he drank alcoholic drinks that he obtained in a playground from youths," police said.

The number of young people binge drinking in Germany is soaring, according to official figures, with more than 20 000 minors admitted to hospital each year with alcohol poisoning.
