State police accused a 50-year-old Coopersburg man of drunken driving and other offenses Saturday morning after a high-speed chase through Bethlehem, Lower and Upper Saucon townships.

Robert Tostevin Jr. refused to pull over for police at 1:51 a.m. near the Eighth Avenue exit on southbound Route 378 in Bethlehem, police said. Instead, police said, he turned in his seat and gestured several times at a trooper with one of his middle fingers.

Police chased Tostevin at high speeds south on Route 378 through the city and across Lower Saucon Township until he stopped for a red light at the intersection of Route 309 in Upper Saucon Township. State police boxed Tostevin in, but he still refused to exit his car, police said.

After a short period of time he lowered his window and police opened the car door and arrested him. Tostevin had an open can of Coors Light in the center console of his gold Dodge Stratus, police said, and a 30-pack of cans on the floor by the front passenger seat.

He was charged with drunken driving, fleeing, drinking and driving, and various traffic violations.
